Recently, in Pingtan, Fujian in southeastern China, "blue tears" phenomenon occurs again. As night falls, the waves of blue ripples, resembling stars scattered across the sea, creating a dreamy and romantic atmosphere along the beach. The "blue tears" are mainly caused by a bioluminescent marine plankton called "sea fireflies (Vargula hilgendorfii)". When stimulated by the crashing waves, their luminescent glands emit a light blue glow. When a large number of these plankton gather, they create a stunning fluorescent blue sea.
