In this episode, we explore a new study that used the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) to observe the exoplanet TRAPPIST-1 b, which is the closest planet to its star in a system of seven Earth-sized planets. The study aimed to learn more about the properties of the planet’s atmosphere and how the star affects the observations of the other planets in the system. The study found that the star’s activity dominates the observations and that TRAPPIST-1 b does not show signs of an atmosphere. The study was published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters and was led by Olivia Lim of the University of Montreal.
