This webinar will provide an in-depth exploration of the future of urban living, with a focus on how innovative sustainable infrastructure solutions are revolutionizing the way we design and manage cities. Throughout the presentation, we will explore the integration of cutting-edge smart city technologies such as Digital Twin, the Internet of Things (IoT), and advanced data analytics to create urban environments that are not only resilient but also energy-efficient.

We will highlight eco-friendly construction practices, including green building materials and low-carbon technologies, which play a critical role in reducing the environmental footprint of urban developments. In addition, the webinar will examine how these engineering advancements align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of environmental sustainability, social equity, and economic growth.

Key takeaways from this webinar
-Understand the role of sustainable infrastructure in the future of urban living.
-Learn how emerging technologies like Digital Twin and IoT are transforming urban environments.
-Gain insights into practical strategies for implementing sustainable construction practices to meet global sustainability goals.

Presenter
Dr. Karoline Figueiredo, EIT Lecturer

Dr. Karoline Figueiredo is a civil engineer with a strong focus on sustainable construction and the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as Digital Twins and Blockchain. She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering (Built Environment Concentration) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ – Brazil), where her research aimed to minimize the environmental, social, and economic impacts of construction projects. Dr Karoline has also collaborated internationally as a researcher at Universitat Rovira I Virgili (Spain) and Western Sydney University (Australia), contributing significantly to advancements in life cycle assessment methodologies for construction.

Dr. Karoline is the co-editor of the book “Materials Selection for Sustainability in the Built Environment: Environmental, Social and Economic Aspects”, which addresses critical decision-making processes for selecting sustainable construction materials. In addition to her academic roles, she serves as a reviewer and editor for prominent international journals. Currently, she lectures at the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT), Australia, and UFRJ, Brazil, where she specializes in Building Information Modeling (BIM), Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA), and other essential methodologies and technologies, empowering students and professionals to develop innovative solutions for construction challenges.
