On 23 September 2004, former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev sat down for an interview with ITN's Jon Snow. The wide-ranging conversation saw the last leader of the Soviet Union reflect on the post-Cold War world, from Russia under President Vladimir Putin to the War on Terror. Defending Putin's record, Gorbachev compared the former KGB agent favourably to Boris Yeltsin. He discussed Russia's war in Chechnya, and he strongly criticised the US-led war in Iraq.
