✅ The nano-style percussive lead, or noise lead, is one of the simplest leads to create and was actually one of the first I learned to design. The principle is simple: you need a short burst of noise, like a synthetic closed hi-hat, which you feed through a short delay or a comb filter to create a resonating sound (this technique is also called Karplus-Strong synthesis).
😎 But, as with everything related to sound design, I like to push things forward, and I encourage you to do the same. I started with a simple burst of white noise, which I fed into Bitwig’s RASP filter. I set it to high resonance and modulated the brightness parameter and the cutoff using random LFOs.
🟢 But one filter isn’t enough though, right? That’s why I added a second 4-pole bandpass filter with the cutoff set to be modulated manually. I finished the sound with a comb filter, using an LFO to modulate the cutoff just a tiny bit to add movement to the sound.
That’s it, enjoy 😁
