On this day in 1991, coalition forces launched Operation Desert Sabre. The ground offensive was part of Operation Desert Storm, which aimed to liberate Kuwait from Iraqi occupation. Action lasted just 100 hours and ended with Iraqi troops fleeing to Basra and allied forces liberating Kuwait on 28 February.
