Plugin reviewed: Heavy Pedal by Audiority (HM-2 sim). This pedal is marketed as a death metal "Chainsaw" tone pedal to achieve the Swedish death metal 90s tone, but if you back off the high filter knob to around 2 o'clock, with everything else on max, you get a great, nasty fuzz tone.

There are not many Fuzz pedal sims/plugins in existence, and I have tried most of them. So far, this is the best virtual fuzz/distortion pedal plugin that I have come across. Some other good fuzz pedal plugins worth mentioning: Audiority - Big Goat, Analog Obsession - Pig Pie. (free) and the Kazrog - Stockholm HM-2 pedal (included with the Ampcraft 1992 amp sim).

I saw Sleep live a few years ago, and I witnessed what I still consider the greatest distorted guitar tone I have ever heard in my life. It was the tone when Matt Pike started playing "Leagues Beneath", He was using the neck pickup on his 1978 Ibanez 2680 'Bob Weir' Pro Standard. (Drop B tuning).
