Fats' recording of "I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Someday" was a cover of the song with the same title by Bobby Mitchell.

Bobby Mitchell recorded his version in 1957, but it was Roy Hayes himself who recorded it first. Imperial Records however never released it.
Hayes recorded it in a 4 song session on May 11, 1957 (IM-1338)
The other three songs: "Rock And Roll Rooster", "5-0791"and You Better Go Home". The latter was also covered by Mitchell and was released as the b-side of "Wheel".

Written by Dave Bartholomew and Roy Hayes (On the OFDF on Facebook you'll find a letter from Dave to Roy Hayes in which wrote that he is very interested in some songs he [Roy] wrote)
By recording the song, Fats got writer credits.

Recorded September 26, 1957
Released on Imperial 5475 (IM-1414) b/w "You Better Go Home"
J and M Studio, 838 North Rampart St., New Orleans, LA
Bobby Mitchell(v), Paul Gayten(p), Justin Adams(g), George Davis(b), Charles "Hungry" Williams(d)

It's hard to believe, but the Michell version flopped all the way. In fact, all his recordings failed to chart, with the exception of "Try Rock And Roll"peaking at #14, if only for 2 weeks.

Though Mitchell couldn't get a hit on Imperial, in terms of numbers, his seventeen single releases rank him behind only Fats Domino and Smiley Lewis among New Orleans' numerous Imperial artists.
