📝: On July 31, 2025, mgk went on the Pat McAfee Show in Canton, Ohio. During this podcast interview, mgk talked about how he felt like a cretin for the first couple month of getting the blackout tattoo.
"For the first couple months [of getting the blackout tattoo], I was like, 'You look like a cretin.' For the first couple months, I had to have some friends to say the right thing 'cause I would just..." mgk said.
"Looks good, dude," Pat McAfee said.
"I needed a couple of those 'cause I was like, you know, you brush your teeth, and you look up, and you'd be like, 'Oh, Jesus.' Like, 'Dude, if you were looking at me, what would you think?' I needed friendly support," mgk said.
"What are you gonna do?" Pat McAfee asked. "Go get it lasered? Were you gonna go get it lasered off?"
"If you're gonna get this lasered off, you might as well just die," mgk said. "I just like redesigning, like, the human skin, and I thought it was cool."
"Your human skin?" Pat McAfee asked.
"Yeah," mgk said. "Sometimes I get bored and I think everything is an art project. So I think I was just kind of like, looking at my body, and I was like, 'This sucks.'"
In 2024, mgk talked about why he blacked out his body on Logan Paul's Impaulsive podcast. "I looked in the mirror one day, and I was like, 'This looks like a person who has rewrote himself so many times on his body and just doesn't know who the f- he is anymore," mgk said. "It just looked like straight chaos. You gotta treat this like, you're writing a journal or something. Imagine if you took a journal and you just kept writing over the same page every day, and then look at that page, and then tell me if you're not confused. Like, why didn't you just turn the page and start over a new thing? That was how I felt."
mgk also explained why he got the blackout tattoo in Brandon Buckingham's video called "Life in Cleveland Ohio." "It definitely had to do with a cleanse," mgk said. "Not covering 'cause I left mirrors to it. I'm evolutionary. So that's all I try to do as an artist, like, my job is to entertain and inspire, and with that comes the consistency of keeping people excited. Something to make people have to think 'cause they've already been used to who I've been in their eyes for 10 years. It's like the Phoenix. It's time for one thing to die and another thing to rise up. Like brand new life."
