-- FR -- Apparu en 1991 en Norvège dans la ville méridionale de Kristiansand sur la scène black metal alors en plein émergence, IN THE WOODS... évolua peu à peu faisant presque figure d'OVNI. A l'instar d'ULVER ou DODHEISMGARD, il façonna peu à peu un style unique et mélancolique, n'hésitant pas à expérimenter quitte à devenir avant-gardiste (l'album Strange In Stereo (1999) ou la compilation Three Times Seven on a Pilgrimage aux envolées progressives et atmosphères mélancoliques presque dramatiques. Après plusieurs splits du groupe norvégien donnant naissance parallèlement à l'autre formation de renom, GREEN CARNATION, le line-up changea avec des membres de divers âges et générations, comme le plus jeune guitariste Kåre André Sletteberg qui a bien voulu répondre à nos questions à propos du 7ème album d'IN THE WOODS. Baptisé Otra (@prophecyBC), celui-ci s'inspire principalement de la rivière qui traverse sa ville natale de Kristiansan dans le comté d'Agder, berceau de la jeunesse du groupe et du musicien.

-- ENG -- Appearing in 1991 in Norway in the southern city of Kristiansand on the then emerging black metal scene, IN THE WOODS... gradually evolved into something of a UFO. Like ULVER or DODHEISMGARD, he gradually shaped a unique and melancholic style, not hesitating to experiment even if it meant becoming avant-garde (the album Strange In Stereo (1999) or the compilation Three Times Seven on a Pilgrimage with its progressive flights and almost dramatic melancholic atmospheres. After several splits of the Norwegian group giving birth in parallel to the other renowned formation, GREEN CARNATION, the line-up changed with members of various ages and generations, like the youngest guitarist Kåre André Sletteberg who kindly agreed to answer our questions about the 7th album of IN THE WOODS. Named Otra ( @prophecyBC ), it is mainly inspired by the river which crosses his hometown of Kristiansan in the county of Agder, cradle of the youth of the group and the musician.
