The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is not only one of the largest protected areas in the world, covering approximately 38,000 square kilometers, but it was also the first transfrontier park in Africa, established in 2000. A fascinating aspect of the park is its semi-arid environment, which supports uniquely adapted wildlife, such as the black-maned Kalahari lion and the gemsbok, whose horns inspired the park’s name in the Tswana language. The park is also known for its exceptional birdlife, with over 200 recorded species, including many raptors like the martial eagle and pygmy falcon.
