This week, the MIT team behind this device confirmed that MOXIE has been working so well that it's oxygen output is comparable to the rate of a modest Earth tree's output.
MOXIE is a small device, the size of a toaster, but this is actually a good thing. It means that if scientists are able to scale up the device's size, it could make far more than just six grams of oxygen per hour.
This can pave the way for astronauts to actually have oxygen on site when they arrive on Mars, as well as the oxygen needed to fuel rockets for the journey back to earth.
