We did a bit of hiking in Mactaquac both days, tackling the Alex Creek Trail, Beaver Pond Trail, and the Little Mactaquac Trail. This provincial park is a woodland area that sits along the shores of the Saint John River. It has lots of different hiking trails, a golf course, a campground, a beach, a marina, plus some fun activities like treetop trekking.
On our first night there, we had dinner at Moco Kitchen which is located inside Mactaquac Provincial Park. The restaurant is located in the Golf Course Clubhouse and they have some mouthwatering dishes featuring fresh, local ingredients. Sam and I both knew what we were ordering before we even got there! I got the seafood pasta with scallops, shrimp and haddock, and Sam got the fish and chips. The food was wonderful! Also, Sam couldn’t resist dessert when the menu came around, so he got us a slice of carrot cake with cream cheese icing, and a turtle cheesecake with chocolate, caramel and pecans...it was just too hard choosing between his two favourites.
We then went back to our campsite, where we had a pretty good night. Sleeping in a tree tent takes some getting used to - it feels like you're bobbing on the water ever so gently. We put the rainfly on since the wind had picked up and there were some dark clouds rolling, but I don't think it actually rained. Even with the rainfly on, there was good air circulation in the tent. It never got too hot or too cold. We both put on an extra layer at night, but we weren't cold by any means! The verdict: tree tent camping is pretty cool and we'd definitely try it again!

🌲 Tree Tent Glamping & Hiking in New Brunswick: Mactaquac Park, Private Beach, Local Eats & Cozy Camping! 🏕️🌊
Introduction: Unusual Accommodations Road Trip in Atlantic Canada 🚙🍁
Hey guys, we're Samuel and Audrey! Summer 2020 brought a pause to our international travels but opened the door for epic local discoveries in Atlantic Canada. This episode is all about embracing unique stays—we’ve previously tested off-grid cabins and tiny container homes, but today we’re taking it to new heights (literally!) with a suspended tree tent adventure along the beautiful Saint John River near Fredericton, New Brunswick. If you're looking for tree tent glamping, riverfront hiking, and mouthwatering Maritime eats, this is the travel guide for you!
Suspended Tree Tent Experience: Glamping by the Saint John River ⛺✨
Next, we head to Lower Queensbury to check into our Tentsile Connect two-person suspended tree tent—floating 1.5 meters off the ground! Perched just a few meters from the river, we give you the full tour: climbing in (shoes off, of course!), chilling on the mattress, and showing how the tent gently sways for the ultimate cozy sleep. Our private site includes a sandy beach, logs for campfires, and epic star and firefly views. Pro tip: the tent features mesh for bugs, anti-roll straps, and a rain fly (which came in handy with stormy skies on the horizon).
Private Beach Life: Canoes, Houseboats & Riverside Vibes 🚤🏖️
We share our exclusive little slice of paradise: a secluded riverbank where we spot boats, canoes, and even make plans for a sunset fire. This riverside spot is pure tranquility, perfect for those seeking a peaceful escape just half an hour from city life.
Hiking & Wildlife: Beaver Pond Trail & Foraging for Raspberries 🐦🦫
Back at Mactaquac, we tackle the Beaver Pond Trail, a 0.9 km boardwalk loop through wetlands once home to busy beavers (now relocated). We spot frogs, ducks, and wild raspberry bushes—enjoying sweet berries right off the trail and reminiscing about berry picking in Patagonia. Hiking here is a breeze, especially on overcast days, and often you’ll have the trail all to yourself.
Sleeping in the Trees: Nighttime Breezes & Cozy Comfort 🌌🛏️
As the wind picks up, we retreat into the tree tent for a restful, bug-free night. The gentle swaying, fresh breeze, and the sound of leaves make for a magical glamping sleep. Our host is prepared for rain (and even offers us a spot in the B&B if it pours), but we’re determined to spend the night under the stars.
