At least five people have drowned after their wooden vessel capsized off the tiny Greek island of Gavdos.

Witnesses said many of those onboard the migrant boat, which was en route from Libya to Crete, were still missing as search operations continued. Naval helicopters were dispatched to the site of the capsized vessel 12.5 nautical miles south-west of Gavdos, with at least 39 survivors found, according to Greece's coastguard
