Today's Catholic Mass Gospel and Reflection for January 11, 2025 - John 3:22-30

"He Must Increase, I Must Decrease"

Saturday after Epiphany
Lectionary: 217

Alleluia: Matthew 4:16
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
The people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, on those
dwelling in a land overshadowed by death light has arisen.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel: John 3:22-30
Jesus and his disciples went into the land of Judea. And he was living there with them and baptizing. Now John was also baptizing, at Aenon near Salim, because there was much water in that place. And they were arriving and being baptized. For John had not yet been cast into prison. Then a dispute occurred between the disciples of John and the Jews, about purification. And they went to John and said to him: “Rabbi, the one who was with you across the Jordan, about whom you offered testimony: behold, he is baptizing and everyone is going to him.” John responded and said: “A man is not able to receive anything, unless it has been given to him from heaven. You yourselves offer testimony for me that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but that I have been sent before him. He who holds the bride is the groom. But the friend of the groom, who stands and listens to Him, rejoices joyfully at the voice of the groom. And so, this, my joy, has been fulfilled. He must increase, while I must decrease.”

Saturday, January 11, 2025 - A moment with GOD through HIS WORD.

Reflection: How can you embrace your unique role in God’s plan and help others focus more on Christ, rather than on your own accomplishments?

Prayer: Lord, I give myself to You for Your service and glory. Use me as You will. As You use me, please give me the humility I need to always remember that I serve You and Your will alone. Free me from jealousy and envy and help me to rejoice in the numerous ways that You act through others in my life. Jesus, I trust in You.
