Iggy Pop, the stage name of James Newell Osterberg Jr., is an American singer, songwriter, musician, actor, producer, and radio broadcaster. He's often called the “Godfather of Punk” and is considered a pioneer of the genre. Pop's band, The Stooges, formed in 1967 and blended blues and free jazz with Michigan's industrial sounds to create a raw, stripped-down rock style that influenced punk, metal, and grunge.
