Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has often faced heat in Alberta – from everyday people to high-profile politicians like Premier Danielle Smith.

Smith said she hopes lawmakers in Ottawa will force an election “at the first available opportunity” after Trudeau announced his plan to step down from his role once his Liberal party selects a new leader.

“It is one of the most irresponsible and selfish acts of a government in Canadian history," she added.
