The Abbasid Caliphate succeeded the Umayyads after having overthrown them. At its zenith, it controlled Persia, Syria, Egypt and Arabia. It also started the Golden Age of Islam by sponsoring science, art and culture. The famous Harun ar-Rashid is probably the most well-known caliph, even in the west.
However, like all great empires, it didn’t last long. As it grew in size, it got weaker and more unstable, like, all empires. Corruption, political rifts and increasing control by mercenaries all led to the collapse of the empire. Sorry for the spoiler but it’s nothing you wouldn’t know in the first ten minutes of the video… which is like eleven minutes long.
