It’s guitar shootout time again: today, it’s my Harley Benton SC Junior in black up against the Harley Benton DC Junior FAT in the Limited Edition Ferris Blue finish!

These are both affordable singlecut guitars that are based on the iconic Gibson Les Paul Junior shape… but there’s a couple of big differences. Firstly, the SC Junior has a standard P90 pickup, and the DC Junior FAT has a stacked P90 pickup, meaning it has single coil and humbucking modes available.

Secondly, the DC Junior’s fingerboard is ebony, while the SC Junior’s is the much cheaper amaranth, and the DC Junior has a much fatter neck profile too. This probably accounts for why the DC Junior FAT costs significantly more than the SC Junior.

But which guitars feels, plays and sounds better? It’s time to find out!

In this video, I play the two guitars in a variety of styles to compare how they sound, feel and perform. Each riff is played three times – first with the SC Junior’s P90, and then on the DC Junior Fat in single coil and stacked humbucking modes! Which do you prefer? Let me know in the comments!

I ran the guitars through a Wampler Pantheon overdrive pedal, a Revv G3 distortion pedal and my Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 head. That went from the Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That's it. No post-processing on the sounds was done.
