Did you ever wondered what are the most extreme capitals in the world?
By extreme I mean the northernmost and southernmost capital on the planet.
The capital of Iceland, Reykjavik, is the northernmost capital city in the world. There are 5,043 kilometers between Reykjavik and the north pole. Located at 64.13 degrees north latitude, it is 2.20 degrees under the polar circle.
Reykjavik is also the westernmost capital city in Europe.
As for the southernmost capital city in the world, the answer is Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. There are 5,415 kilometers from Wellington to the South Pole. Located in the center of the country, Wellington is the third most populous urban area in New Zealand.
