The United States has made several proposals to purchase the island of Greenland from Denmark and this is why.
Back in 2019, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, made a surprising move. He wanted to buy Greenland from Denmark. Sounds strange, doesn't it? But this isn't the first time the U.S. has tried this. Let's go back to 1867. After buying Alaska from Russia, the U.S. was thinking big. They considered adding Greenland and Iceland to their territory. But nothing happened. Offers were made in 1910 and 1946, but Denmark said no both times.
Fast forward to 2019. Trump made another offer, but Denmark said no again. People were puzzled. Why did Trump want Greenland? Well, it's all about location. With the ice melting, new Arctic routes and military advantages are emerging. Having land there could help the U.S. counter Russian and Chinese influence.
