This seems like a regular resort, but if we look further, it’s actually in the middle of a very iconic and important UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Philippines - which is the Bohol Chocolate Hills. These hills have been etched into the collective memory of many Filipino generations. This area has been protected since July 1, 1997, by Proclamation 1037 issued by President Fidel Ramos, and it was declared a National Geological Monument. Though the hills extend to neighboring towns in Bohol, the resort is situated in Sagbayan, which some might consider relatively distant from the main area of the UNESCO site in Carmen. In 2023, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources issued a Temporary Closure Order and a Notice of Violation on January 22, 2024, reportedly due to the resort's lack of an Environmental Compliance Certificate. But what do you think? Would you want to be in this pool right now?
The Chocolate Hills was declared a protected area on July 1, 1997 through Proclamation 1037 issued by then president Fidel Ramos. The Proclamation designated the Chocolate Hills as a National Geological Monument and a Protected Landscape in view of its unique geological formations and the importance of maintaining the natural wonder for future generations.
