Plattermen - Old Devil Wine 1972 (UK, Psychedelic , Folk , Blues , Soul Rock)

In 1960, four musicians from Omagh ( Northern Ireland) who played brass (Ray Moore, Leo Doran, Billy McGinty and Pat Chesters), gathered under the name "The Platters Paramount Showband". Became vocalist Brian Coll, who worked in the style of country & western, doo-wop. Shorten the name to "The Plattermen", they have achieved a certain popularity , speaking on the network banquet halls "Showband". In 1965, was written and published country-pop ballad "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen", add them to even greater prominence . But addiction to music has changed rapidly over the yard , and their music began to lose its appeal. And , as a consequence, the group began changes in the composition - there are new guitarists Rob Strong and Alan McCartney, and then joined the band as the new singer Simon Scott. Group name shortened to "Plattermen". Musicians began to look for a more modern sound , resulting in there songs performed in the style of soul and R'n'B. In 1972, Dublin was recorded and released on the "Dolphin Records" album "Old Devil Wine". This release was markedly different from their earlier works - it was mostly original compositions , interface with the blues -rock "Blood, Sweat & Tears", and "African Wah Wah" ( with violin John Trotter) was written under the obvious influence of the composition "Soul Sacrifice " Carlos Santana . The album was highly appreciated . And the fact that he never reprinted , making it one of the most expensive and sought collectible releases ... Irish rock band's popularity gradually declined. In 1973, the musicians made ??a desperate attempt to stay afloat . Changing the name to "Hammer", a group via "Vertigo" released the single "Rock Off". However, the team is not saved. Since 1974, under the name "The Plattermen" began performing Rock Stewart (Willie Loughrey), a cabaret singer , formerly with them completely disjoint. The most amazing thing is that none of the founding musicians objected against this ! The only one who has had some success in the future, was Rob Strong, who continued a music career as a solo artist .
