Viqarunnisa students block road demanding permanent campus in Dhanmondi

Several hundred students of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Dhanmondi campus, and their parents blocked the Mirpur road in the capital’s Dhanmondi area on Tuesday protesting at the closure of their Dhanmondi campus.
They put up a blockade on the busy road from about 12:00 noon to 4:20pm pressing for a number of demands that include cancellation of the move to shift their campus in Dhanmondi to elsewhere, establishment of a permanent campus in the area and stopping transfer of teachers to ensure education standard.
The four and a half-hour demonstration on the street made people from all walks of life, including ambulances carrying patients, students, children and the elderly, suffer as traffic movement came to a halt in and around Dhanmondi areas.
The blockade on both sides of Mirpur road trigged huge traffic congestion in different areas, including Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Mohammadpur, Shahbagh, Azimpur, Segunbagicha, Gulistan, Bijoy Sarani, Shyamoli and Kalyanpur.
