"For this very special mix, we have selected Brazilian albums from singers in the southeastern part of the country, mostly from Rio de Janeiro. These albums, we believe, belong to a musical subgenre with a name we invented: Pop Maresia.

Pop Maresia is a cut formed mainly by groups of Brazilian pop-rock artists, predominantly from Rio, filled with synths, guitar solos, and irreverent bass lines, which puts this "made in Rio" Rock 'n' Roll in a very sunny place, somewhat reminiscent of the famous Balearic sounds originating from the European Balearic Islands.

The name we chose for this subgenre is inspired by the soap operas of the Brazilian television network Globo and their stories, which had Rio de Janeiro as a backdrop. During the episodes of these soap operas, at certain moments in the narrative, sometimes after some scenes, quick compilations of images of Rio during the morning, afternoon, and beach scenes throughout the day and night in the city would appear, or vice versa. And in these last ones, the nocturnal sea mist of the Carioca coastline was a trademark.

The idea of these clips was to represent that time had passed, and from there, it had become night or morning in the plot in question. The soundtrack of these compilations of quick videos (approximately 10 seconds in length) was usually composed of music in this style.

Maresia is the Portuguese word to represent this fine, moist mist that sometimes hangs over coastal cities, floating along the coast. It is the name associated with the aroma of this mist. The so-called "smell of the sea," or maresia, is much more than just a sea breeze: it is a smell that is rooted in the chemical composition of the ocean and all the beings that inhabit it.

We hope you enjoy our Pop Maresia mix!"
