Baby you know
you know what you're doing to me
let me tell you about it
you got me playing out of tune
you got me singing off key
Lord have mercy
the things you do to me
I'm walking this street baby
feeling low down and mean
I called you on the phone honey
all I get is that machine
I got the blues
you give me the blues
I got the blues baby
you told me to call
next time I was in town
you said hey Bobby I'm always around
you said you dug the blues said I could really get down
but the Street Talk says you've been seeing Bobby Brown
I got the blues yeah you give me the blues
oh I got the blues baby
you know you ain't the first to put me down
and you won't be the last for good old Bobby Brown
so don't come back with your tail all drooping down
I'll give you the blues right down to your shoes
you feel these blues oh girl
you got me playing out of tune
you got me singing off key
Lord have mercy
the things you do to me baby
I'm walking this street girl
feeling low down and mean
I called you on the phone
all I get is that machine
I got the blues
you give me the blues oh I got the blues baby
oh
yeah baby
well
you know girl
yes you know girl
I got the blues right down to my shoes you
give me the blues
Bobby 'Hurricane' Spencer is renowned for lifting the spirits with his deep soulful and funky blues, deserving mention with King Curtis and Hank Crawford according to Dave Rubin, KBA recipient. Like a powerful musical storm, he blows you away. Named by Elmore Magazine as one of the killer artists you need to hear right now and selected by Relix magazine as a featured artist.
Spencer started his musical career in Oakland. During those Chitlin’ Circuit days, you could find him dead center in the funk bands of JohnnyTolbert and DeThangs and Marvin Holmes and the Uptights. These legendary bands played in historic 7th Street soul pumping venues behind such legends as Etta James, the Whispers, Charlie Musselwhite, Lowell Fulsom and ZZ Hill, and opened for Bobby Blue Bland, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and Smokey Robinson.
In 2020 his Star was placed on the Walk of Fame in his hometown along with artists like Etta James, BB King. Previously in 2013 he was honored by the State of California and City of Los Angeles as an inductee of the Living Legend Foundation along with Les McCann, Barbara Morrison, Gerald Wilson, Buddy Collette and many other legendary musicians.
His trademark sound can be found on records by Timex Social Club, Sonny Rhodes, JJ Bad Boy Jones, Jimmy McCracklin, just to name a few and his original music appears on the Grammy nominated Force of Nature album by Koko Taylor (with a guitar solo by Buddy Guy)!
