The first US Festival is held in California drawing over 300,000 people to see The Police, Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac among others. The Tube is launched on BBC Television with live performances of new UK music artists. Michael Jackson's album Thriller is released, going on to become the best selling album of all time.
