🇵🇪 Barranco FOOD TOUR in Lima, Peru | Best Ceviche, Anticuchos, Pisco Sour & More!
Welcome to another delicious food tour adventure, this time in Barranco, Lima’s most colourful, artistic, and bohemian neighbourhood! Join me as I explore the best local dishes, from Peruvian classics to tasty street food, in this charming and vibrant district.
Here's what we got up to on this Peruvian food adventure:
🍉 Tasting Exotic Fruits
Started the day by sampling delicious tropical fruits, including chirimoya, passion fruits, gooseberries, and artisanal Peruvian chocolates—sweet way to begin!
☕ Peruvian Coffee & Empanadas at Luna Nueva
Learned about different roasting styles of authentic Peruvian coffee.
Enjoyed delicious chicken and corn empanadas with an incredibly buttery crust—highly recommended!
🔥 Lomo Saltado & Anticuchos at Ayahuasca
Visited Ayahuasca, a colonial home turned stylish restaurant, for lunch.
Watched a thrilling cooking demonstration of Lomo Saltado, Peru's famous stir-fried beef loin cooked with flames reaching the ceiling, served with rice and fries.
Tried Anticuchos (grilled beef heart skewers)—tender, flavorful, and a popular Peruvian street food staple.
Had Inca Kola (a sweet, bubblegum-flavoured soda), admittedly not my favourite.
🌉 Bridge of Sighs Tradition
Crossed the famous Bridge of Sighs, holding our breath and making a wish—a quirky Barranco tradition that's harder than it sounds!
🐟 Ceviche & Causa at República del Pisco
Experienced a lively ceviche-making demonstration at República del Pisco.
Tasted an incredible Causa, a traditional layered potato appetizer topped with fresh tuna—highly recommended!
Ceviche remains my absolute favourite dish in Peru; fresh, tangy, and utterly delicious.
🍸 Pisco Sour at Juanito
Visited Juanito, the oldest bar in Barranco (since 1937), for an authentic Pisco Sour demonstration.
Learned how to make Peru's national cocktail from the owner's grandson—loved the artistic presentation and frothy texture.
🍦 Local Artisanal Gelato
Ended the tour with local artisanal gelato at Blu Gelateria del Barrio.
Tried two Peruvian specialties: Lucuma (a creamy local fruit) and Menta Muña (Peruvian mint and chocolate)—both delicious!
📍 Exploring Barranco's Charm
Took in Barranco’s beautiful colonial architecture, vibrant street art, and laid-back bohemian vibes.
Noted landmarks like the central plaza, yellow cathedral, and local market square—perfect spots to reorient if you get lost exploring!
🍽️ Final Thoughts & Recommendations
Barranco offers a different experience from Miraflores—quieter, artistic, charming, and less hectic.
Loved that this food tour combined tasting dishes with cooking demonstrations, making it easier to recreate these flavours back home.
Met friendly travellers from around the globe (Australia, USA, Finland), making the experience even more enjoyable.
If you're visiting Lima, this Barranco food tour is an absolute must to truly savour the best of Peruvian cuisine in one of the city's coolest neighbourhoods!
