Speaking English in France? According to studies, just 1 in 5 French people speak English fluently, they've got the lowest English Proficiency of any EU member state country and rank 35th out of the entire European region (coming in only above Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Albania, Belarus and Azerbaijan).
In this video, Mandy (an Instagrammer and English teacher here in Paris) and I sit down to chat about why that may be - including cultural mindsets and the way English gets taught in the French education system.
To be 100% clear, we are NOT saying that the French should speak english, nor are we shaming their level. In fact, one of my favourite quotes is "When a person has an accent, it means they can speak one more language than you." However, it is an interesting facet of the culture that we will explore today.
