Richie Sampson is a lovely man who used to be a member of The Drifters. Barry Collings introduced him to me. We have so far made two 45s on him, "MEMORIES LIVE ON FOREVER" and "LAY DOWN MY DEFENCES", the first of which I wrote with Wayne Hernandez, and the second of which I wrote with Angelo Starr. Richie is a wonderful Northern Soul performer and has appeared several times at Skegness. He is a joy to work with, and nothing is ever too much trouble. Richie Sampson has performed with former longstanding members of the legendary Drifters such as RayLewis, Billy Lewis, Roy G Hemmings and others. He was also Frontman for the first British multicultural soul group ‘The Foundations’ (million selling hit “Build me up buttercup”). The current line-up of ‘Soul Kinda Wonderful’ includes Paul Anthony and Roy Bailey who were apart of the original Ray Lewis group back in the late nineties who toured worldwide. The group is joined by Victor Alexander who performed for Soul Giant Johnny Johnson and The Vagabonds and for the irrepressible Mark Morrison who penned the number 1 worldwide hit ‘Return of the Mack’
Richie Sampson & Soul Kinda Wonderful are music award winners: They were voted the Official No.1tribute to The Drifters in 2013 at the NTA Awards held by the Agent’s Association of Great Britain…whoselected them on the basis that.. “their performance and star quality is the nearest to the real thing we have seen”.
