Wanting to buy some apple pears from her, he looked inside her basket. It was almost empty. The man asked if the old woman had finished selling her pears.
The old lady told him that she didn't have much pears to sell to begin with. By the looks of it the old lady was barely making anything from the pears she sold. Confused, the man asked how old the lady was, she said that she's in her 80s. The man then asked where her partner was. The old woman started crying, she said that her husband has just passed away. Not even 100 days ago. She said that her husband had left her 10 pear trees.
Sensing there's more to the story, the man asked if he could visit her pear farm, she agreed. She scooted aside and drove the man there to her farm.
The old lady said that ever since her husband died, she couldn't bear to pick any pears from the trees. Only selling what had already fallen from the trees. Perhaps this behavior was a result of her grief.
The old lady gave one pear to the man to try. The man said that it's rather sweet. He told the lady that his team goes around buying produce from old people who are having trouble selling their fruits and veggies. He told her that the apple pear is rather small and he understands why she priced it lower than other vendors. The lady told the man that it's because children eat the pears too, she refuse to use harmful pesticides and fertilizers.
The man asked how her husband died and the old lady was reluctant to reveal the details at first but she eventually said that her husband fell ill, and he refused treatment. Because he was afraid he would use up all the money his wife may need after his passing. Not long after, he passed away. His sudden death was a shock to the old lady and it deeply hurt her. She couldn't help but shed a few tears thinking about her late husband.
The man gave the woman some money. He told the lady that he'll have his friend come and inspect the pears. If he thinks the quality is okay enough to be sold at market, they will buy it all, she won't have to pick or harvest the pears herself. If not, she can still keep the money. The lady was grateful. His team does not do this to make money. Rather, they do this to help the old people who relies on growing produce for a living.
When the old lady hugged him, she hugged him tightly. This man probably helped her grief her late husband in the kindest ways possible. His generosity and kindness will not be forgotten easily.
