In this short, Matt explains the function of the collective, a control located on the left-side of the pilot seat. The helicopter collective is an essential control and influences the pitch of the blades. When you lift the collective up, it provides the aircraft with more lift. In contrast, if you push down the collective, it provides the aircraft with less lift. In addition, the collective includes a button that controls the landing lights located on the belly of the aircraft. This is especially handy when we are flying at night as the pilot does not have to take their hand off the collective at any time during the landing process.
