Walk on the Wild Side was produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson for Reed's 1972 album Transformer. The iconic bassline, played by Herbie Flowers, was created using both an upright bass and a fretless electric bass, layered together for depth. Flowers was reportedly paid just £17 for his session work, a bit of a rip-off for Mr. Flowers, don’t you think?

The song's lyrics were inspired by characters from Andy Warhol's Factory scene. They were extremely explicit for the time, but the song became a massive hit, and Reed's most famous track.
