_NOTE: there is some fuzziness on a couple tracks (notably Hangin’ On An Eyelid). That is baked into the record itself._

Second Hand’s second album is often heralded as a landmark album of progressive rock, loved by many. What’s interesting is the variation in the mix between the different pressings.

The original release on Mushroom in 1971 started with the track “Death May Be Your Santa Claus”. The album was reissued in 1972 on Mushroom with the track “Funeral” in its place and, for whatever reason, was remixed. This remix is what most reissues of the album have used.

This rip, however, is of an entirely different mix altogether. Released in 1971 on the Stateside label in France only, it contains a radically different mix that is more similar to the 1971 mix than the 1972 mix…but even more mental.

Some observations I noted between this mix and the others:
- The vocals on DMBYSC have much more reverb on them and there’s a lot more brass mellotron
- At the ending to Hangin’ On An Eyelid, the band fades out and the vibes keep playing for probably at least twenty seconds longer than the other mixes
- Lucifer And The Egg is entirely different right from the start, with the drums fading in and out randomly to ambient noise for the intro, and additional organ and percussion throughout (and maybe some added mellotron?)
- Somethin’ You Got has additional percussion and vocal tracks absent from either of the Mushroom mixes and it sounds like some mellotron was added too
- The stereo imaging of the instruments on Cyclops is completely different
- Revelations has parts taken out and some parts repeated, making the song nearly twenty seconds longer (if you're used to the flow of this song, you will be thrown away)
- DMBYSC Reprise starts abruptly without either the fade-in or the “Understand…” line from the Mushroom mixes, and there’s a LOT more mellotron
