This, is Djibouti. And Every global superpower wants a military base in this tiny little country, but why?
The most important reason is Djibouti’s strategic location. One of the most important chokepoints for the global trade is Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, which is basically the gateway to Europe that every ship coming from the Indian Ocean has to pass. More than 25% of Global Trade is dependent of the security of this Strait.
Whoever gains control in this region can massively influence the global economy.
Djibouti is close to many conflict zones like Sudan, Yemen and Somalia, conflicts that can put in jeperty the maritime trading through Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.
Djibouti currently host hosts eight overseas military the largest of these being those of the United States, France and China.
