Go to the grocery store starving and you’ll come back with all kinds of things you don’t actually want and that’ll likely make you feel like crap later.

Same goes for OCD, anxiety, panic, and intrusive thoughts.

Don’t go trying to solve problems when you’re actively anxious about something. You’ll end up creating more problems. This is actually a really poor state in which to problem solve effectively, anyway.

Don’t go doing compulsions and safety behaviors just because you’re anxious. You’re anxious but the compulsions and safety behaviors won’t actually fix anything. They’ll make you feel okay temporarily but it’ll come back to bite you later.

Just because you want something doesn’t mean you need it. In fact, you probably don’t need it. It’s probably the opposite of a need.

Give yourself some time and go to the grocery store when you’re full and satisfied - solve problems when you’re calm. Assess whether or not you should do that ritual when you’re less emotional. Give yourself some time space and I guarantee perspective will come.
