I'm a junior in high school and I've had the biggest crush on this girl Ava in my chemistry class for like two years. She's smart, funny, and way out of my league, but we'd started talking more and I was finally working up the courage to ask her to homecoming.

My 8-year-old sister Lily is obsessed with being my "wingwoman" even though she has no idea what that means. She keeps asking about my "girlfriend" and I keep telling her I don't have one.

Last Friday, Ava and I are working on a lab project together and she mentions she needs to stop by the library after school. I'm about to offer to walk with her when she says, "Actually, do you want to study together? I could use help with the math problems."

This is it. This is my moment. I'm trying to play it cool when I say, "Yeah, that sounds great. I'll meet you there at 4?"

She smiles and says yes. I'm internally freaking out because Ava just asked ME to study with her.

I get home and I'm telling my mom about my "study session" (trying to be casual about it) when Lily overhears and gets super excited.

"Is this the girl you like? The one you write about in your diary?"

I don't have a diary, but before I can correct her, she's already running upstairs. I think nothing of it.

I get to the library at 4 PM and Ava's already there with her books spread out. We're actually having a great time - she's laughing at my jokes, we're working well together, and I'm thinking maybe I actually have a shot.

That's when I see a familiar tiny figure marching through the library doors.

Lily spots us and makes a beeline for our table. She's carrying a manila folder and has this very serious expression on her face.

"Hi! You must be Ava!" she announces loudly enough for half the library to hear.

Ava looks confused but smiles. "Hi there. Are you Jake's sister?"

"Yes! I'm Lily and I have very important information for you!"

My blood runs cold. "Lily, what are you doing here? How did you even get here?"

"Mom dropped me off. She said I could give Ava the presentation I made about why you should be her boyfriend!"

I want to crawl under the table and die.

Lily opens her folder and pulls out what can only be described as a PowerPoint presentation printed on construction paper. The title page says "WHY AVA SHOULD DATE MY BROTHER JAKE" in glitter glue.

Ava's trying not to laugh. Other students are starting to stare.

"Lily, no. Please. We need to go home right now."

But Lily's already flipping to page two. "First, Jake is very clean. He showers every day and brushes his teeth twice, sometimes three times when he knows he's going to see you."

Ava raises an eyebrow at me. I'm dying.

"Second, he's really good at video games, so if you ever need someone to beat a hard level, he can help."

Page three: "He knows how to make really good grilled cheese sandwiches and he always shares his snacks."

I'm trying to grab the presentation but Lily keeps dodging me.

"Oh! And this is the best part!" She flips to a page that's just a drawing of me and Ava holding hands with hearts around us. "He drew this picture of you guys together! Well, I drew it, but he told me what you looked like!"

Ava is full-on laughing now. "He described me to you?"

"Oh yes! He said you have pretty hair and you're really smart and you smell like vanilla!"

I have never said she smells like vanilla, but apparently my sister has a creative imagination.

"Lily, we're leaving. Now."

But Ava stops me. "Wait, I want to hear the rest of this presentation. This is the most thorough dating resume I've ever received."

Lily beams and continues. "Jake also writes your name on his notebooks sometimes, but he scribbles it out when he thinks people are looking."

This is true and I'm mortified that my sister noticed.

"And he practices asking you to dances in the mirror! I heard him through the bathroom door!"

Also true. I'm going to die.

Ava is crying laughing at this point. "Lily, this is amazing. Did Jake know you were making this?"

"No! It was supposed to be a surprise! I wanted to help because he talks about you ALL the time but he's too scared to tell you he likes you."

The entire library is now watching this disaster unfold.

Ava looks at me with this huge smile. "Is all of this true?"

I'm bright red but I figure I have nothing left to lose. "Unfortunately, yes. All of it."

She grins. "Well, for the record, I think you're pretty great too. And I'd love to go to homecoming with you."

Lily jumps up and down. "My presentation worked! I'm the best wingwoman ever!"

Ava leans over and whispers, "Your sister is adorable. But next time, maybe just ask me yourself?"

We've been dating for three months now. Lily takes full credit and introduces herself to Ava's friends as "the reason they're together."
