In recent years, the number of Africans migrating from the continent to the UK or any other European country has been steadily on the increase. However, contrary to what the West thinks, the majority of Africans are fine with staying back at home. You see, the usual perception of the West is that all African migrants want to come to Europe because the continent is so poor, insecure, and generally bad. But the data reveals a vastly different story. According to data from the UN, the total number of African migrants in the year 2020 was 40.6 million which is just 14.6 percent of the worldwide total migrants. This number is significantly smaller than the proportion from Asia which is 41 percent and even Europe which is 22.5 percent. So, what does this number tell you?
It simply means that the number of migrants from Europe and Asia is way more than those from Africa. And eight percent of African migrants stay on the continent. It’s only about 20 percent that attempt to find new homes in Europe. Out of this 20 percent, only eight percent are refugees or come into Europe illegally. The remaining 12 percent travel to Europe legally by plane. They spend huge amounts of money to legally enter Europe in search of better opportunities. However, the bias against Africans and the false belief that African migrants will overrun Europe has made European countries tighten visa restrictions for Africans in general.
