Bassment @ Shelter with LIVE Acid Pony & Tzusing

Bassment is a techno minimal oriented event hosted at The Shelter, established in early 2011. Originally aiming to bring dark, progressive techno rhythms of Shanghai producers and DJ's. However, over many months it has morphed into a showcase of experimental, live and new techno minimal as well as keeping its original goal of creating an atmosphere of bass and progression. Bassment has heard its fair share of techno minimal and is planning on giving back to this growing creative community. As a way of displaying the appreciation, Bassment is compiling a set of original works of its DJ's and producers that have defined, not only Bassment but also the entire techno scene in Shanghai and China.

------------------------- ACID PONY CLUB -------------------------
Acid Pony Club gives up the House and Disco Mixes that has made it almost famous around town to set up an all Hardware Live PA. All HArdware as in no Computer, just some good old Boxes and some ponies sweating around. Add to that aproper show that looks like some rock concert and a bunch of weird vocals and you got yourself the perfect Techno entertainment system. Music is Acid, Techno, House, electro, whatever.

------------------------- TZUSING -------------------------
Tzusing hates music. Twice as deep and three times wide Traumatized by the exposure of radio and MTV His hate is a rare psychosis unknown yet to modern medicine. It is blind and visceral A hate so intense it must be expressed. It has taken the form of ghost writing for DJ Tiesto, David Guetta and Armin Van Buuren. Subjugating their fans to the sonic equivalent of a strictly gummy bear diet. No one can hide, music comes here to die.

Here s how Raphaël Valensi describes his set up :

We play a strictly hardware live set, which means no computer, all
drum-machines, samplers and synths. we're 4 people on stage, El'se is
our latest recruit in Acid Pony Club she deejays around town with us
and with the STD crew as well, Tzu Sing is part of Void crew and does
the Stockholm Syndrome party at Dada, then there's the two of us, clem
and myself, who you might have seems playing house music as a duo.
we use an Emu XL7 aka The Yellow Machine, which is a sequencer that
comes with a big soundbank, we use it primarily for drums and for
simple chords, El'se operates it. The XL7 is the master in the midi
Sync chain, it has 2 midi outs adn send sync to both, one for Tzu's
x0xb0x and on for the Akai MPC1000.
The x0xb0x is a clone of the legendary Roland TB303, a single
oscillator analog synth with a filter that people would kill for, it's
what does that acid sound we love so much, it has its own sequencer
and we use it for acid basslines which is the main core of the live
set, Tzu Sing operates it.
The Akai Mpc1000 is a sequencer and a sampler, we load it with a bunch
of samples we created on the computer or whatever and use it to play
extra drum sounds and bits of other instruments that we have in the
studio but don't want to use on stage. Also the MPC doubles as a
sequencer for the Moog Slim Phatty, a double oscillator analog synth
that works very well for big fat basses and weird leads, Clem operates
these and he also improvises on a MicroKorg XL, which is a very common
digital synth with a very tiny keyboard and a very useful vocoder,
it's pretty practical for live use!
we then send the XL7, the Mpc, the x0xb0x and the Moog through a 8
track pre-amp/compressor, the Focusrite Octopre, that makes everything
sound bigger and brighter. the x0xb0x also goes through a tube
distortion guitar pedals so we can make it sound even fatter, it
extends the sonic possibilities of this little box turning it a
ridiculously aggressive acid monster.
