The Humboldt Mill near Ishpeming in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is where the Lundin Eagle Mine processes nickel and copper ore from the nation’s only domestic supply of nickel. A surge in global demand for nickel, a crucial component in making stainless steel and electric vehicle (EV) batteries, has increased the spotlight on the mine, which opened in 2014 and is planned to close in 2026.
