The war being fought between Israel and Iran raises many complex legal and political issues. Is it merely an act of aggression, as many suggest, or is there a defensive element, as Israel and many of its allies insist? And why does the question of legality matter so much?

I then tackle one of the most contentious and long-standing issues in Middle Eastern geopolitics: Israel’s undeclared nuclear arsenal. Why is Israel allowed to possess nuclear weapons while Iran is consistently denied that right? I examine the history of nuclear proliferation in the region, the role of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and the political double standards that influence global non-proliferation policy. Is the current system fair, or is it a reflection of unequal power dynamics in international relations? And why does the world reject efforts by Iran to gain nuclear weapons, but then accept Israel's nuclear weapons?
