In 1943, the tide of war begins to shift in favor of the Allies. After months of grueling combat in North Africa, Generals Eisenhower and Alexander prepare for the decisive blow against the Axis forces. Their mission is clear: drive the Germans and Italians out of Africa for good.

But the road to victory is anything but easy. The Allies push forward, slowed by heavy rains and the relentless defenses of Rommel, the cunning “Desert Fox.” After a series of strategic maneuvers and intense battles, the noose tightens around the Axis forces in Tunisia. By May 1943, the last remnants of the once-feared Afrika Korps are either captured or destroyed. North Africa is liberated.

With Africa secured, the question looms: where to strike next? The Allied command debates, and the decision is made—Italy will be the next battleground. But before they can reach the mainland, they must first take Sicily.

In July 1943, the invasion begins. Allied bombers hammer the island, softening enemy defenses while entire divisions prepare to land. But an unexpected storm disrupts the airborne drops, scattering paratroopers far from their objectives. Despite this setback, Patton and Montgomery’s forces push forward. Within weeks, Palermo falls, then Messina. The Axis forces retreat, and Mussolini, the once-mighty dictator of Italy, is overthrown.

However, Italy is far from free. Though the Italian government surrenders, the Nazis seize control, fortifying their positions. The next crucial step is the invasion of the mainland. In September, the Allies launch the Salerno landings, but this time, they face ferocious resistance. Under the command of Field Marshal Kesselring, the Germans turn every inch of ground into a brutal battlefield.

For days, the battle rages. The Allies struggle to gain a foothold, but relentless air and naval support gradually turns the tide. The Germans are forced to retreat, and by early October, Naples is liberated. But the city is in ruins. Before fleeing, the Nazis have destroyed its infrastructure—water supplies are cut, the port is in shambles, and hidden explosives litter the streets.

As Naples begins to rebuild, the Allied forces press on. But the Italian campaign is far from over. The rugged mountains and well-fortified German defensive lines promise a long and grueling struggle ahead. Meanwhile, in secret war rooms across the world, another operation is taking shape—one that will bring the fight to Hitler’s doorstep. The invasion of France is coming…
