How to gradually upgrade ZFS Pool from a single disk to RAID1 (2-drives mirrored) and finally to RAID10 (4-drives mirrored and striped).

In my scenario, I started with one drive because of cost and better to start small. Then when I have more money I will buy another drive to add redundancy. Then when my business grow I can add capacity and speed by adding 2 additional drives to finally implement striping and mirroring with RAID10.

In this video I am demonstrating the using Proxmox, but this technique can work with any Linux distribution.

Here are the commands I used in this video:

TO LIST DISK BY-ID:
ls -lsah /dev/disk/by-id/

TO ADD 1-DRIVE FOR RAID1:
zpool attach zfspool ata-QEMU_HARDDISK_QM00005 ata-QEMU_HARDDISK_QM00007

TO ADD 2-DRIVES FOR RAID10:
zpool add zfspool mirror ata-QEMU_HARDDISK_QM00009 ata-QEMU_HARDDISK_QM00011
