What makes an American Ranch Style House so COOL? Welcome to our series - Amazing American Architectural Home Styles. In this fifth episode, we look at beautiful American RANCH Styles. American Ranch Style homes originated in the United States. They are also known by the terms American ranch, California ranch, rambler, or rancher.

Ranch homes usually feature:

Single-story floor plans with low-pitched roofs with Deep overhanging eaves. Roofs may be Cross-gabled, side-gabled, or hip roofs.
Simple, open floor plans with Rectangular, “U,” or “L” shaped designs.
The living areas are separate from the bedroom area.
A Patio or deck connected to the home as well as an attached garage.
Some include a finished basement.
Large windows, sometimes decorated with decorative shutters.
Vaulted ceilings with exposed beams. Some also have tongue and groove roof decking.
Mixed material exteriors of stucco and brick, wood, or stone.
Two-story versions or split-level versions are also available.
