Moisturisers are an important part of skin care routine. In winter choose ones which will hydrate your skin for longer.
Few things which can help dry skin :
1. Bathing with Lukewarm water: hot water strips the skin off its oils.
2.Use a gentle body wash which doesn’t dry out the skin.
3.Short shower less than 2 mins : shirtier the shower the better. Bucket bath is preferred in very dry skin
4.Thin towel to dab excess water : avoid using thick woolywoven towels which tend to be very drying on the skin .
5.Moisturiser on damp skin: this helps to lock in the moisturiser and hydrate the skin for one grr periods of time.
6.Cotton in touch with skin or under a layer of woollen ; cotton fabric doesn’t irritate the skin. Woollen fibres tenet of irritation dry skin out further.
7.Silk pillow cases : reduces friction between skin and pillow thereby reducing dryness
8.Moisturise whole body before sleep: this is important in those with very dry skin or elderly to prevent excess drying of skin one they wake up I the morning
9.Urea based hands and foot cream : urea is a humectant as is a preferred ingredient in moisturisers on hand and feet for its lasting results on dry skin.
10.Humidifiers at night : this is particularly helpful in winter, especially in those with extremely dry skin or those above age of 60. This will maintain the humidity in the air and prevent excess drying of skin overnight.
11.Fragrance free moisturisers : fragrances can irritate the skin especially if you have dry sensitive skin. Use moisturisers and serums free of fragrance .
