These two precious pals spent much of the day hunkered down in the nest bowl out of the cold wind. All that quiet togetherness created a great time for stick play. Taking after dad and mom, Gizmo started the stick maneuvers with just the right stick and a perfect handoff to Sunny who expertly placed it right where it needed to be.
As Gizmo continued nest investigations, Sunny got the requisite ‘marching in place’ exercises completed. Gizmo’s endless curiosity checked every piece of fluff and stick in reach while Sunny’s fascination went to whatever might be flying overhead. Then Gizmo’s discovery of just the right stick drew Sunny’s attention.
They worked hard on almost cooperating to pull that bendy stick to where it needed to be...but apparently bendy sticks are hard to settle down. It had to be placed over here and then over there and then pulled in opposite directions multiple times before it would stay put…but, that’s all in a day’s work for little eagles learning the ropes…or the sticks.
Even though there were more sticks and some matted feathers to play with, Gizmo got completely taken by Sunny’s bright yellow toes. Apparently, those toes were so tasty that Gizmo just could not leave them alone, even with Sunny’s protests. So, Sunny found a bendy stick to distract Gizmo from the toes…and that worked…for a while…
…until Gizmo got completely fascinated by the toes again, and Sunny had to try other distracting feathers and fluff to protect the toes. Finally, when nothing else was working, Sunny gave Gizmo a big wing hug. That did it…
…well, for a short time. Eventually, Sunny had to stand up completely to draw Gizmo’s attention away from those toes. That distracting maneuver pulled them both into lots of exciting wingersizing in the blustery wind.
What a fun day of play!
