Jannik Sinner is set to return to professional tennis on May 4, 2025, at the Italian Open in Rome, following a three-month suspension that began on February 9, 2025. This suspension was the result of a positive test for clostebol, an anabolic agent, which was attributed to contamination from a spray used to treat a wound. Although an independent tribunal accepted that there was no intent to dope, Sinner agreed to the suspension to avoid a potentially longer ban.  

Despite his absence from the tour, Sinner will reclaim the world No. 1 ranking upon his return, as his main competitors did not accumulate sufficient points during his suspension. 

Sinner has expressed readiness for his comeback, acknowledging the challenges ahead:

“I’ll be back in a moment in which there will be already a lot of attention on me, and in Rome it’s not easy.”
