Episode 4 - Hiking & Snowmobiling Colorado’s Mining District
Hi, we’re Brianne & Ben with our 2 dogs Bella & Bucky. 🐶🐶👫
On this episode we began our decent off the mountain. Before doing so we learned a valuable lesson we wish we would have known before driving our Van from warm, sunny Florida to cold, snowy Colorado. That is BUY A BATTERY / ENGINE warmer for your vehicle 🔥
THANK YOU SO MUCH TO THE PEOPLE ON THE MOUNTAIN THAT WERE SO GENEROUS TO HELP US!
With no help from our insurance or other tow companies due to the size of our van & steep mountainous roads, we were stuck! Thankfully with the help of locals we were able to warm the battery enough to get the Van started. 🚐
After making a pit stop st the closest auto fscility we finally picked up on our plans and headed to Keystone Resort, CO. Although the day was almost over, we enjoyed some local brews, fresh pizza, brisk walk along the river, and great people watching (ice skating rink 😂)
The next day we woke to LITERALLY a frozen van…AGAIN! ❄️🥶 We still managed to get out of bed, make coffee, and head our on a nice walk with the dogs around Dillon Reservoir. It was BEAUTIFUL. Later that day, we headed toward Leadville, CO which is part of the old mining district. There we had the luxury of anowmobiling through the backcountry and old mines. It was so cool to look back and see how times were totally different. In the 1850’s Leadville had a total of 2800 patented mine claims all mining for gold, silver, zinc, copper, and more.
That night, After being cold all day, we made the decision to get a hotel room as expected temperatures were suppose to drop below freezing again!
Stay Tuned for the next episode as we begin our journey south into MUCH warmer weather!!!
