Why Is America 🇺🇲 Called The United States? #shorts

Did you know the name "United States of America" was officially adopted on
September 9, 1776? Before that, they used "United Colonies." The change to
"United States" showed their strong desire for independence and freedom
during the American Revolution.
Interestingly, "America" wasn't widely used until the 20th century. Over time,
"America" became a shorthand for the United States.
But why "United States"? It all started with the unification of former British
colonies. Early on, these colonies were called various names, like "British
Colonies" or "Twelve United English Colonies of North America."
As the revolution heated up, the term "United Colonies" came into play, used
by the Continental Congress as early as 1775. Then, on September 9, 1776,
the Second Continental Congress made it official – the United States of
America was born. Fun fact: this name appeared even earlier in drafts of the
Articles of Confederation.
