Daily LIFE in ARGENTINA: World Cup ⚽ + Mountain Trekking 😅 + Renovations! 👷 (Weekly Vlog)
🌄 Adventure, Renovation & Alfajores: Week in Our Rural Argentina Vlog
Dive into our latest weekly vlog, where we juggle mountain hikes, unexpected World Cup mornings, property work and even a sweet alfajor taste-test—all while settling into village life in Argentina’s Sierras.
1. Bad Start, Good Rescue
We join a trucking-club excursion to La Cumbrecita… only to miss the 8 AM bus (holiday schedules strike again!).
After 1.5 hours of hitchhiking attempts, fellow trekkers scoop us up on their bus.
2. La Cumbrecita: Argentina’s First Pedestrian Town
Vehicles parked at the top, then it’s foot-only through a rugged, super-scenic mountain hamlet.
3. The “Cakewalk” Hike That Wasn’t
Trail to 1 715 m above sea level sounded easy—until our lungs, still acclimatising, protested!
Reward snacks at the summit: a crispy wafer and chewy turrón (white nougat).
4. Siesta & Shade
Midday sun got intense (17 °C felt like a blast furnace!), so Sam found a secret Siesta Zone under a tree.
5. Hike Recap & “Piranhas at the Picnic”
What we thought was a 45-min jaunt turned into a 15 km trek with boulder scrambling, river crossings, and optional subterranean-river crawls.
Ended with a hearty picada—tour leaders joked we were “piranhas around the table.”
6. Future Ambition: Cerro Champaquí
Dreaming of a 40 km, 3-day trek to Córdoba’s highest peak… but we’ll wait for cooler autumn weather.
7. World Cup Wake-Up Call
Next morning: 7 AM kick-off for Argentina vs. Saudi Arabia! No open bars, so we watched with neighbours—Argies take football very seriously.
8. Property Project: Bush Clearing & Rewiring
Sam hacked back sarsamora bush near Granny’s house, carving “tunnels” through rock walls.
I trekked the Ranch to meet an electrician—this 80-year-old chalet needs a full rewire.
9. Groundhog Day Gardening
Same outfit, same scissors—etching away at weeds in mid-30 °C heat, only to discover mosquito bites everywhere!
10. Chalet Yard Makeover
We cut dangerous álamos (poplars) overhanging the roof, then sorted branches into piles:
Thick trunks for firewood
Leafy swags drying for the wood-chipper
Leaf litter & fine debris
11. Friday Errands & Shopping Runs
Took the bus into town for hardware (measuring tape, frying pan) and weekly groceries: supermarket, fruit & veg stall—and yes, hardware stores sell frying pans here!
12. Alfajor Taste-Test at Casita Suiza
Friend’s mom surprised us with three artisanal alfajores:
Chocolate-coated dulce de leche classic
Walnut-studded nutty delight
Sugar-glazed quince jam “macaroon”
